Product Description

A great introduction to quality English still wine, Flint Dry is a blend of predominantly Chardonnay, Bacchus, Pinot Blanc. This highly aromatic white wine has intense aromas of apple, pear and citrus, together with crisp acidity and a long, refreshing finish.

Grape Variety

49% Chardonnay, 27% Bacchus, 13% Siegerrebe, 5% Reichensteiner, 5% Shonburger, 1% Pinot Blanc

Reflective of Chapel Down's story and ongoing evolution, the grape variety blend for our best selling Flint Dry white wine has changed over the last 20 years. This blend has shifted from a higher weighting of floral Germanic varieties like Siegerrebe and Reichensteiner, which dominated early English vineyard plantings, towards more elegant, fruit forward varieties like Chardonnay, which now thrive under the warming UK climatic conditions and improved knowledge of our viticulturalists. The wine was blended, clarified, and bottled in March 2023.

VINEYARD

To ensure consistent top quality fruit for this wine, we source from a collection of vineyards in Kent, Sussex and Essex. Grapes are grown predominantly on single and double guyot pruning systems, on varied soils including, chalk, clay and loam soils to best benefit the grape varietals grown.

WINEMAKING

Hand-picked grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel, to retain the aromatic purity of this wine. Blending and clarification took place after six months on the lees in the tank.
