What Does Blanc de Blancs Mean in Wine?

While it's a term you may have hard many times, what does Blanc de Blancs mean in wine, and what style can you expect from a Blanc de Blancs expression?

So what does Blanc de Blancs actually mean in wine?

Blanc de Blancs is a French term that translates into English as 'white of whites'. Put simply, a Blanc de Blancs wine is a sparkling expression made exclusively from white grapes - most commonly Chardonnay grapes.

What food should I pair with Blanc de Blancs wine?

Thanks to the brightness and natural acidity that the Chardonnay grape brings to the table, Blanc de Blancs is an excellent wine for food pairings. We recommend pairing our own Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs with white fish and shellfish, though it's well capable of cutting through richer dishes, too.

What Blancs de Blancs wines does Chapel Down make?

With Chardonnay the most-planted grape variety in England, it stands to reason that many of our nation's Blanc de Blancs will be derived from that grape.

While Chardonnay lends itself beautifully to a characteristic purity, finesse and delicacy, with time to age these sparkling wines develop a wonderful complexity and richness. For example, with our Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs there's a heady marriage of precision and elegance at play; ripe, even caramelised apple dancing with buttery pastry.

Made only in exceptional vintages, Chapel Down's single vineyard Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs is a love letter to the extraordinary potential of the Chardonnay grape.

Sourced from the 100-acre Kit's Coty vineyard on the Kent Downs, Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs is made from only the very best parcels of hand-harvested fruit. The resulting wine is partially aged in barrel before undergoing maturation in bottle for four years before release.
