Product Description

Our winemaking team are continually experimenting with different varieties and styles, releasing limited parcels under the ‘Discovery Series’ label. This collection of vibrant English wines celebrates the art of English winemaking.

Albarino was planted by the Nicholas family here in Kent after many holidays in Galicia in Spain. 2023 was a slightly cooler year but with a warm Indian summer. This resulted in wines which are light, crisp and fresh. Chapel Down were the first winemaker to produce an English Albariño.

Expect aromas of grapefruit zest complimented with a super crisp palate.

Grape Variety

100% Albariño

Traditionally grown on the Iberian Peninsula, the Albariño grape variety is acclaimed for its refreshing stone fruit flavours, acidity and hints of salinity. It's small, thick skinned grapes make it hard to produce, however trial plantings by the Nicholas family (long time Albariño advocates) in Sandhurst, Kent have demonstrated it's potential long term success in growing in a warming UK maritime climate.

VINEYARD

Made from grapes grown in Sandhurst, Kent. A grape variety best known for its
wine planting in Galicia, Spain, a trial planting in Kent proved hugely successful thanks
to our similar Maritime climate. The Pinot Blanc grapes were whole bunch pressed, and only the best juice was used.

WINEMAKING

Fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed before 50% was fermented in stainless steel and 50% was fermented in old oak barrels with full malolactic fermentation. At Chapel Down, we utilise malolactic fermentation in order to convert tart malic acid into softer lactic acid for a variety of our white wines. This allows for additional velvety texture and body to be added to these wines.
